Indian Railways Suspends Train Operations to Bangladesh Amid Unrest

New Delhi, August 5 — Indian Railways announced on Monday that it has suspended all train operations to Bangladesh due to the ongoing unrest in the neighboring country. This suspension includes the popular passenger trains, the Maitree Express and the Bandhan Express, which connect India and Bangladesh.

The decision comes as tensions escalate in Bangladesh, with widespread protests and civil disturbances reported across several cities. The Indian government, prioritizing the safety and security of passengers and railway personnel, has opted for a temporary suspension of services until the situation stabilizes.

Indian Railways officials stated, "The safety of our passengers and staff is of utmost importance. Given the current situation in Bangladesh, we have decided to halt all train services to the country as a precautionary measure." They also assured that the situation would be closely monitored and services would resume as soon as it is deemed safe.

The Maitree Express, which runs between Kolkata and Dhaka, and the Bandhan Express, which connects Kolkata with Khulna, are significant symbols of the strong cultural and economic ties between the two nations. The suspension of these services highlights the severity of the situation in Bangladesh and reflects the Indian government's concern for the well-being of its citizens.

Passengers who had booked tickets on these routes have been advised to contact railway authorities for refunds and further assistance. The Indian Railways has set up a helpline to address any queries and provide support to affected travelers.

The unrest in Bangladesh has been marked by large-scale demonstrations and political turmoil, leading to disruptions in daily life and public services. The Indian government is also keeping a close watch on the developments and is in constant communication with its diplomatic mission in Dhaka.

As the situation unfolds, Indian authorities are working to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in Bangladesh and are prepared to assist them in case of an emergency. The Ministry of External Affairs has advised Indian nationals to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel to Bangladesh.

The suspension of train services is a precautionary measure, and Indian Railways officials have expressed hope that normalcy will return soon, allowing the resumption of cross-border train operations.
