A 25-year-old engineering graduate was arrested by Tumakuru police for stealing the innerwear of female students living in his locality. He confessed to police that he had stolen women’s innerwear from houses in SIT area, SS Puram and Ashoknagar of that city. Police said he was addicted to watching blue films. His parents are teachers and his elder brother is also an engineer. They were unaware of Sharath’s behaviour until police knocked on their doors. Sharath was released on bail with a warning not to indulge in such activities in the future. The affected female students declined to formally register complaints or provide testimonials, though the building owner had reported the incident to New Extension police. The girl students were not ready to lodge a complaint or give a witness statement, a senior police officer said. The man confessed that he was returning home after swimming when he saw the Innerwear and stole them, the officer added. He admitted to similar thefts across SIT Area, SSPuram andAshokNagar, whilst being influenced by inappropriate content consumption. Despite his educated background, with parents as teachers and a sibling in engineering, the family remained oblivious to his actions until police intervention.
