A batch of 116 illegal immigrants deported from the US arrived in Amritsar. Two from Punjab for alleged murder and another from Haryana on charges of sexual assault on a minor. A fourth deportee, son of a Punjab cop, was detained in connection with two pending FIRs against him for dacoity and snatching. A non-bailable warrant had been issued against him in a 2021 case of snatching after he went missing after he entered the U.S. from Italy last month, police said. He faces multiple other charges, including criminal intimidation, under IPC and Pocso Act, according to police. The deportees were brought back to India by a US military aircraft late Saturday. The second batch of116 illegal immigrants brought back from the United States arrived in India on Saturday night and were arrested on arrival at Amrit’sar airport. They were brought in on a military aircraft from Washington, D.C. and flown to Amrit’sar on Sunday.
