A sailor’s boat caught fire in a sea near Alibaug in Maharashtra. At least 80 per cent of the boat got burnt while no injuries or deaths have been reported. 18-20 fishermen were on board at the time of the incident and all have been rescued. The cause of the fire is not clear but preliminary investigation suggests that a short circuit might have caused the fire. A fishnet present on the boat possibly spread the fire, according to the police. The boat belongs to Rakesh Murti Gand of Sakarakshi village. The accident reportedly happened in the early hours of Friday, between 3 and 4 am. The fire has been put out and the fishermen have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The incident has been reported to have taken place in the sea off the coast of the state of Maharashtra in the state’s north-east. It is not yet known whether the fire was caused by an electrical fault or an accident involving a fishnet in the boat.
