Amavasya or New Moon Day is considered the most auspicious day to perform puja to ancestors and forefathers as the day is dedicated to honor them. People perform various religious and spiritual activities such as chanting mantras, performing hawan, donations and charity. This month, Phalguna Amav asya will be observed on February 27, 2025. Devotees visit various religious sites to perform hawan and yajna, as well as to take a holy bath in the Ganga river. In addition, people offer food, water, and prayers to their departed ancestors as part of Shraddh ceremonies. Taking a sacred bath in Ganga River is seen as extremely virtuous.
