BJP wins municipal corporations of Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur, Raigarh, Korba, Dhamtari and Chirmiri. In previous urban body polls held in 2019-2020, the then ruling Congress had swept all 10 municipal corporations. Opposition Congress managed to win eight municipal councils and 22 nagar panchayats. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won one municipal council and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won a nagarPanchayat. 5 municipal councils, 10 nagar PanchayAT vote for Independents. The state capital will have a BJP mayor after 15 years and Meenal Choubey defeated former Congress mayor Pramod Dubey’s wife Dipti by over 1.5 lakh votes. An elated CM Sai said: \”Today is a historic day for BJP and Chhattisgarh govt that will be etched in gold\”
