Chhattisgarh’s new law allows shops to operate 24/7, grants women permission for night shifts with safety measures. This law applies to all establishments with more than 10 employees. Employers must keep electronic records of their employees and submit an annual report via an online portal by February 15 every year. The new rules and regulations will not apply to liquor shops, a state official said. He also stated that the new law will ease business operations in the sector and offer special advantages to small traders, as the flexibility in shop hours will boost business activities. The State Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017, along with the 2021 Rules, also specify registration fees ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000 based on the number of employees, a rise from the earlier fees of Rs 100 to Rs 250, the official stated. The law will be implemented within six months of the implementation of the new Act, he added.
