Chittajallu Krishnaveni, a pioneering figure in South Indian cinema, passed away on Sunday, February 16, at the age of 100. Over a career spanning more than eight decades, she made significant contributions as an actress, singer, and producer. Her passing marks the end of an era, as she was one of the last surviving legends from the golden age of Telugu cinema. She starred in several iconic films, including ‘Daksha Yajna,’ ‘Bhoja Kalidasa,’ ‘Jeevanjyothi,’ ‘Tukaram,’ ‘Kacha Devayani,’ and ‘Manadesam.’ She also holds the distinction of being the first to sing ‘Jo Achyutananda Jojo Mukunda,’ an Annamayya Keerthana, on the Telugu screen. For her invaluable contributions, she was honored with the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award by the Andhra Pradesh government. She also produced ‘Bhakta Kumbara’ in Kannada with Rajkumar and the Tamil remake of Yamagola, featuring Sivaji Ganesan.
