Congress veteran Sam Pitroda says the threat from China is often blown out of proportion. He says India’s approach to China has been \”confrontational\” and that mindset needed to change. The BJP calls his remarks a \”very deep blow to India’s identity, diplomacy and sovereignty\” It accuses the Congress of prioritising China’s interest above India’s. The Congress has distanced itself from Mr Pitro da’s remarks. He has courted controversies in the past but was given back his post at the helm of the party’s overseas unit after he sparked an uproar with his comments in 2024 on the diversity of Indians. The government has trashed Rahul Gandhi’s claim that India had lost a part of its territory to China, a claim that has been trashed by the government. The opposition in India claims the country had lost chunk of its land to China during these clashes – a claim which resurfaced in Gandhi’s parliament speech earlier this month. Mr Gandhi had claimed China has control over 4,000 sq km of Indian territory, which was refuted by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
