Deoband’s Darul Uloom and Bareilly’s Dargah Ala Hazrat have appealed to members of the community to avoid unnecessary movement on roads. The second Friday of the holy month of Ramzan coinciding with the festival of Holi on March 14. The appeal comes just days after a senior police officer in Sambhal had triggered a row by commenting that \”Holi is a festival that comes once a year, whereas Friday prayers take place 52 times in a year,\” according to reports in the Indian press. \”Our country’s identity has always been mutual harmony and brotherhood. We must maintain this spirit, especially on such significant occasions,\” DarulUloom’s acting vice-chancellor, Maulana Abdul Khaliq Madrasi, also made a similar appeal. \”Unnecessary loitering on the roads during Holi should be strictly avoided. Ramzan is a sacred month, hence, devote more time to prayers indoors,\” MadrasI said. \”If anyone feels uncomfortable with the colours, they should stay indoors on that day,\” he added.
