Dr Shaija A has been appointed as the Dean of the Planning and Development Department, with effect from March 7. She was arrested and released on bail in February last year following complaints from organisations such as DYFI, SFI, and the Youth Congress. She had allegedly expressed \”pride\” in Godse for assassinating Mahatma Gandhi and thus \”saving India\” The order from the Director has instructed her to work alongside the current Dean, Dr Priya Chandran, until March 7 to facilitate a \”smooth changeover\” The youth wing of the CPI(M) has announced a protest march to NIT to demand her removal from the post. The police had registered a case under Section 153 of the IPC (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riots). The appointment is initially for two years, until further orders, according to the order. It is not clear if the appointment will be extended beyond the two-year period, or if it will be a permanent one.
