Elon Musk has asked all federal employees across multiple agencies to justify their work for the past week. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk announced that an email has been sent to federal employees, “failure to respond will be taken as a resignation” The email, sent from the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) new HR address, had no official signature but carried the subject line: “What did you do last week?” Employees were instructed to reply with “approximately five bullet points of their accomplishments” while copying their managers. The post came just hours after Trump suggested that Musk should be more “aggressive” However, while Musk publicly threatened job losses for non-compliance, the email itself did not include any such warning. It simply set a submission deadline of Monday at 11:59 p.m. ET. Despite the urgency of the request, some emails were marked with high importance or red exclamation points. Several national security agencies, including the FBI, advised employees not to respond immediately.
