Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa, who heads the European Council representing the bloc’s 27 states, wrote in a joint statement on social media. \”We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace,\” they wrote. The EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas questioned America’s leadership after the extraordinary clash in which Trump and Vice President JD Vance berated Zelenski for failing to show gratitude for U.S. help in repelling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. \”Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge,\” Kallas wrote onsocial media following the incident. \”Ukraine is Europe! We stand by Ukraine.
