Gurpreet Singh (30) and Amanpreet Kaur (26) got married a year-and-a-half ago. They left the country soon after and kept wandering from one country to the other for nine months. American immigration agents arrested them as soon as they entered that country. They landed in Amritsar Saturday night on the second US deportation flight and reached their native place at Lalru in Punjab’s Mohali district on Sunday. The couple are traumatised and unwilling to reveal details of their nine-month-long route to the US. The family is now worried how to get Rs 80 lakh, paid to an agent in Haryana, back. They are the second couple from Mohali to have been deported from the US and are worried about how they will pay back the money they paid to the agent in the first place, Gurpreet’s father Jaswinder Singh is a Punjab cop. The case is being investigated by the US Department of Homeland Security.
