Hindon Civil Terminal in Ghaziabad will see two new daily flights this month. Air India Express will start flights to Bengaluru and Mumbai on Monday. Terminal’s metro circuit will be complete later this month when AI Express begins a daily Chennai flight. Further development and land acquisition are planned to enhance the terminal’s infrastructure. If all flights are launched by the end of the month, the terminal will be close to saturation, say officials.. The terminal was written off, but it is showing how viable it is, says Ghaziab MP Atul Garg. The airport is located in the heart of NCR to Delhi’s east – from where IGI airport is 30-40km away – and has a huge catchment area. For a terminal that had before this March seen only Udan flight by second-tier airlines, and in phases no flight at all, this windfall is suddenly testing its capacity. With Udan connections to five cities – Nanded, Adampur, Bhatinda, Kishaganj and Ludhiana – the airline will from Monday have flights to nine cities, potentially rising to 13 by month-end. Sources said talks are also on to start flights from the Hindon terminal to Varanasi and Lucknow.
