IT employee union NITES filed a case against Infosys for firing hundreds of trainees. Centre has asked the labour commissioner to take appropriate action on the matter. These are freshers who were given offers in 2022 and are being onboarded now as the demand picks up in the IT services industry. Wipro too sacked freshers after they could not pass a similar test after their training. It said it took a test because it wanted to see how updated these freshers were technically as it had been two years since they graduated. The Central government has sent the case to the Karnataka labour commissioner. The Centre has made a request to the ministry of labour and employment to intervene immediately to prevent unlawful termination byInfosys Limited. The company terminated around 350 freshers at its Mysuru campus after they failed to clear internal assessments, despite being given three attempts to succeed. The evaluation aimed to assess their proficiency and skills in Java programming and database management systems (DBMS), requiring them to achieve a minimum score of 65% in each of the assessments.
