Joint security forces in Manipur have dismantled several \”illegal check posts\” along the Imphal-Churachandpur road. Police on Saturday informed that these check posts had been established since the beginning of conflict in the state. Manipur has been grappling with ethnic violence since May 2023, with clashes between the majority Meitei community and the Kuki-Zo tribal groups in the surrounding hills. The unrest has led to over 250 deaths and the displacement of thousands, exacerbating tensions in the region. Meanwhile, Manipur Police have registered an FIR regarding fraudulent calls made by unknown individuals attempting to mislead members of the state assembly. A case has been registered at Imphal Police Station, and legal action is underway to trace those responsible for the calls, a police officer said. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made so far, he said, adding that the investigation into the calls is still ongoing and could take a long time to come to a conclusion, if at all.
