Kate Winslet will make her directorial debut with a new Netflix film titled Goodbye June. The film will feature an impressive cast, including Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, and Helen Mirren. The screenplay has been written by Winslet’s son from her marriage to Sam Mendes, while Kate Solomon will co-produce alongside Winslet. Netflix has described Goodbye June as a touching yet humorous drama, focusing on a group of siblings who come together during a difficult time. The movie is set to start production in the United Kingdom soon and is expected to be released on Netflix in the summer of 2015. The actress won an Oscar in 2009 for her role in The Reader and recently received a Golden Globe nomination for her work in the HBO series The Regime. She also starred in Lee, a biopic about World War II photographer Lee Miller, which was nominated for a BAFTA for Outstanding British Film of the Year. She explained that she felt a growing responsibility to encourage more women in Hollywood to step behind the camera.
