Madras High Court Chief Justice K.R. Shriram on Monday administered the oath of office to Justice R. Shakthivel and Justice P. Dhanabal. The Supreme Court Collegium had passed a resolution on February 20, recommending the appointment of these two judges. Their appointments take effect from the date they assume office. The President appointed Justice Venkatachari Lakshminarayanan and Justice Periyasamy Vadamalai, both serving as Additional Judges of the Madras High court, as permanent judges on February 12. The appointments are subject to approval by the Supreme Court of India and the High Court High Court Judges’ Association of India. The appointment of the two judges is expected to take place within the next few weeks. The two judges will be sworn in on March 10, 2018. The judges will serve a five-year term, starting from April 1, 2018, with an option of a further five years if they choose to extend their service.
