Mayawati has always been upfront and ready to whack anyone she finds questioning her political position. The BSP’s dismal performance in the elections has left her followers perplexed. Her electoral base has gradually shifted to other parties. Rahul Gandhi appears to be targeting the shifted vote base that Mayawati is targeting. The Congress hopes to bring the Dalit community to its side ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party has made the Muslim community the main plank in its electoral battle against the BJP. The target was clear – the 21 per cent Dalit population in Uttar Uttar Pradesh is the party’s biggest vote-getter. The campaign started by creating clear-cut doubts among the Dalits and other Backward Classes about the \”intentions\” of the grand old party. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BSP failed to secure a single seat after going solo. Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad clinched victory in Nagina Lok Sabha seat. The win indicates there is space for some electoral politics and there are others ready to dive in.
