MCG finalising a proposal to transfer around 7.2 acres of land in Sector 103. In exchange, the GMDA will pay the civic body around Rs 28.7 crores for the land parcel. The proposal has now been sent to urban local bodies for approval. The city currently has two bus depots operated by GMCBL at Sector 10 and Sector 52-53. A third depot is under construction in Sector 48 on 7.5 acres at a cost of Rs 15 crores, with foundation work already underway. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and will have repair and maintenance workshops, washing areas, and an office complex. According to the comprehensive mobility management plan, 1,550 buses are required to serve the city’s growing population by 2026. In 2023, the central govt approved 100 electric buses for the city under the PM e-sewa scheme. However, the first batch of e-buses, which were supposed to arrive in Oct last year, are still awaited due to a delay in the tendering process by the Centre.
