Mormugao Municipal Council has generated double the revenue in Feb this year as compared to last year. While last month’s revenue was Rs 3.8 crore, it was Rs 1.8crore in Feb 2024. MMC chief officer Siddhivinayak Naik said that the council has cracked a whip against the defaulters to pay their arrears and dues. They were told that if they fail to do so, stringent action will be initiated by imposing heavy fines and cancelling trade licences, he said. The council is expecting higher revenue generation till the end of this financial year. The chief officer has issued notices to thedefaulters after taking over charge in mid-Jan. “The impact was such that the defendant paid their dues in Feb itself, which has created a record in terms of revenue collection,” said Naik, who has been in charge since mid-January. It is expected that the revenue generation will continue till end of the financial year, he added.
