Ranya, who was arrested last week for allegedly smuggling gold from Dubai, was sent to judicial custody till March 24. The BJP has alleged the involvement of an influential minister in shielding her. The Congress countered the charge by accusing the former of allotting 12 acres to her to set up a TMT steel bar factory. Meanwhile, the DRI sleuths probing the gold smuggling case have arrested a man, sources said on Monday. The arrested person is the son of a well-known hotelier in the city, according to PTI. The investigation is underway and with the CBI also stepping in, the truth will come out, Karnataka’s Home Minister G Parameshwara said. “Until the investigation concludes, we cannot say anything. Neither me nor the government can offer any such feedback,” he told PTI, adding that neither the government nor the home minister could comment until the investigation is over.“The blatant violation of government protocols that allegedly enabled Ranya Rao to smuggle gold over Rs 12 crore could not have happened without the direct support of influential figures within the government,\” said BJP state chief B Y Vijayendra.
