Rashtrapati Ashiana, the President’s official retreat, in Dehradun’s Rajpur Road, will open to the public on June 20. Officials said that the park will include a multi-activity zone, cycling track, sports facilities, children’s play area, walking and jogging tracks, a forest nature trail, and water features. Citizens have been invited to share feedback and suggestions for the project until April 6. However, the project has raised concerns about the loss of the last green stretch on Rajpur road, especially in light of the development of vehicle parking space on a defence ground opposite the estate which connects it to the property via a foot overbridge. The main building will offer visitors access to the main building, a museum showcasing the President’s Bodyguard’s 251-year history, and an equestrian facility. Unlike other presidential retreats, such as Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad and Rash trapati Niwas in Mashobra, Rashtrapatis Ashiana will be the first with an active PBG presence to allow public access, promising a unique glimpse into the regiment’s ceremonial and operational roles.
