Report by Deloitte India showed that AI adoption in healthcare has surged past 40 per cent, surpassing sectors such as FMCG and manufacturing. Government-backed initiatives such as the IndiaAI Mission and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 are setting the stage for a digitally empowered healthcare ecosystem. India’s healthcare system is poised to significantly influence the health of over a billion people, stimulate economic growth, and provide high-quality, affordable care to previously underserved regions of the country. Despite advancements, the adoption of AI in healthcare is progressing more slowly than in banking and financial services, said the report, citing concerns on data security, regulatory fragmentation, and limited digital infrastructure in rural areas. To realise AI’s full potential in healthcare, “the sector must overcome challenges such as regulatory alignment, workforce training, and infrastructure limitations,” said Joydeep Ghosh, Life Sciences and Health Care Industry Leader, Partner, Deloite India. The report also mentioned the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, an influx of private sector investments, and the integration of various technological breakthroughs.
