Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar were among the highest-paid screenwriters in Bollywood. Their success gave them confidence that no one would turn down their films. Director Ramesh Talwar recently shared an incident where he surprised Salim-Javed. When approached for a film, he asked for the same payment as them. The film faced significant delays and was ultimately released in 1985, long after the writer duo had split in 1982. It was directed by Talwar, who is known for Doosara Aadmi, Baseraa, and Sawaal. He mentioned that he had a history of openly discussing Salim. Javed’s films and giving honest feedback, which they appreciated. Despite this, he felt the payment they offered was not fair, especially since he was receiving higher offers elsewhere. He said that other directors were willing to take on the film for just ₹2.5 lakh, to which he calmly responded that they should go ahead with those alternatives.
