Sensex drops 700 pts from day’s high, Nifty slips below 22,500: 1% fall in Wall Street futures among key factors weighing on D-Street Sensex and Nifty. Sensex dropped 709.32 points from its intraday high to touch a low of 74,031.93. BSE benchmark settled 217.41 points or 0.29 percent lower at 74,115.17. The benchmark Nifty 50 closed at 22,460.30, down 92.2 points or0.41 percent. Market participants attributed the selloff to concerns over a sharp decline in US stock futures, renewed fears of trade tensions and weak cues from Asian markets. A slew of economic indicators this week, US and India CPI data, also kept the investors on edge. \”Global headwinds continue to drag the market sentiment, with the rise in US unemployment rates and tariffs leading to uncertainty, indicating that volatility is here to stay for the near term,\” noted Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.
