Shaashwat Sahoo, an 18-year-old from Odisha, achieved the prestigious Eagle Scout rank in the US. This top accolade in the Boy Scouts of America highlights his exemplary skills and long-term commitment. Shaashwat was a devoted scout since he enrolled as a cub scout when he was six years old. He helped build a bridge for elementary school children and retirement home residents, create a new trail system, construct community garden planters and install a park bench. For the rank of Eagle, all scouts must learn to cycle and swim proficiently, know basic first aid and lifesaving, emergency preparedness, volunteerism and develop leadership skills, among others. \”It challenged me to improve my endurance, learn technical maintenance and navigate diverse terrains safely — all through extensive outdoor training,\” he said. In the future, he is confident that the leadership, technical abilities and community engagement fostered through scouting will help him academically, professionally and in life. He is a Class 12 student at Nashua High School South near Boston.
