Six Ivy League institutions, including Columbia and Harvard, received these letters. This development occurs as university administrators face increasing pressure to control pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The government cancelled $400 million in federal grants to Columbia University on Friday, citing insufficient action against campus antisemitism. The investigation timeline for many institutions remains unclear, but OCR recently instructed its staff to address the backlog of antisemitic harassment complaints promptly. “The Department is deeply disappointed that Jewish students studying on elite U.S. campuses continue to fear for their safety amid the relentless antisemites eruptions,” said education secretary Linda McMahon in a letter to the institutions. The current administration has prioritised addressing perceived anti-Israel and antisemite activities on university campuses. The administration pledged to withdraw federal funding from institutions accused ofantisemitism tolerance, with Columbia University designated as the initial target. The remaining fifty-five institutions are now being investigated or monitored following OCR complaints. The Department of Education has not commented on the investigation timeline.
