State Congress president Amit Patkar and Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare visited the temple site a week after its demolition. Patkar: “BJP govt’s hypocrisy on Hindutva stands fully exposed. While they claim to protect Hindu interests, they demolished the Khapreshwar Temple and are now turning a blind eye to the demand for its reconstruction,” said Patkar. The party warned of a state-wide agitation if govt ignores the demands of devotees. The temple committee and devotees must be respected, Patkar said. “We fully support the temple committee’’, said the state Congress in- charge. The shrine was destroyed by the BJP-led state government in 2008. It is one of the oldest Hindu temples in the state, dating back to the 16th century. The site is located on the banks of the Konkani River, near the town of Panaji in Goa.
