The avalanche hit snow-capped Mana at 7:17 am this morning, five kilometres from the Badrinath shrine in Uttarakhand. 57 workers were struck when the avalanche came but 22 managed to run to safety and have been taken to the Army camps. The search for the remaining 35 was launched and the operation is still on. At least 60-65 people are involved in the rescue operation which is taking place at 13,000 feet. The Army and other rescue teams have pulled out 11 people to safety. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said it is rushing four teams to Uttarak hand’s border district of Chamoli where 41 labourers have been trapped under an avalanche. The Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE) in Chandigarh issued an avalanche warning for a period of 24 hours at 5 pm on Thursday for places located above 2,400 metres in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts.
