The five-day workshop received participation from 81 students from across Goa. The training in IoT technology was provided by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bengaluru, in a collaboration with the directorate of higher education and Govt College, Quepem. The aim was to push their knowledge from the basics of IoT systems, protocols and implementation to hands-on application, said the principal of the college. The workshop was for SC and ST students from the computer science, electronics, physics and IT departments with a fundamental understanding of IoT technology, she said. The students have also been provided kits for experimentation with IoT. The initiative is a strong step toward democratising access to technology and ensuring that every student, irrespective of background, gets an equal opportunity to experiment, create, and innovate, said S D Sudarsan, executive director, C-Dac. It was also intended to encourage them to be involved in IoT-based experimentation and to facilitate them to find end-to-end solutions to societal problems, said Kavita Asnani, workshop coordinator.
