The Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) has sharply criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent two-nation visits to France and the United States. IOC UK President Kamal Dhaliwal informed on Sunday that they held a meeting to analyse Prime Minister Modi’s two- nation visit and its potential outcomes. The issue of mistreatment of Indian immigrants being deported by the US figured prominently in the meeting, he added. Modi allegedly failed to raise the issue of the mistreatment (handcuffing and shackling) of Indian migrants while deporting to India with President Trump, while Trump took the opportunity to criticise India over reciprocal high tariffs. He said that the IOC members in the UK believe that instead of positioning India as a global leader, these visits have raised serious doubts about Modi’s ability to conduct effective diplomacy. Further meetings with IOC leaders across the globe would be held to raise these issues, he said. The IOC said that despite the optimistic rhetoric, Modi fell short of positioningIndia as aglobal leader in artificial intelligence.
