The Jan 1979 Marichjhapi massacre, which became the backdrop of Amitav Ghosh’s ‘The Hungry Tide’, has haunted Indian filmmakers. Bauddhayan Mukherji was among those who announced his intentions to direct a feature film on this occurrence. This Jan, a Bangladeshi series was made on this subject. Helmed by Sukorno Shahed Dhiman, the series has garnered considerable attention on both sides of the border since it draws inspiration from authentic historical occurrences, particularly the massacre. ‘Feu’ presents a fictionalised interpretation of historical occurrences. Through this series, we aim to retell this historical narrative,\” said Anindo Banerjee, who is the head of content for Chorki OTT platform. \”In the current situation, revisiting history from an objective point of view is necessary,\” said Ayesha Chowdhury, a film enthusiast from the Khulna region of West Bengal.
