Uber Auto has moved to cash-only model for commuters across India.

Uber has transitioned its ‘Uber Auto’ rickshaw service in India to a cash-only payment model, aligning with local competitors and intensifying market competition.

This shift means commuters can no longer use digital payment methods, such as UPI, for auto rickshaw rides booked through the Uber app. The move is expected to streamline transactions and cater to the cash-preferred demographic in the country.

Uber’s main rival in India, Ola, has been accepting cash payments from the outset, contributing to its extensive reach across over 100 Indian cities.

This strategic change by Uber aims to enhance its competitiveness in the Indian market by aligning its payment options with local preferences.
