Warisa, 45, allegedly caught her daughter, Nazia, speaking to her boyfriend during Sehri preparations around 3am on Saturday. Nazia had dropped out of school due to financial difficulties and stayed at home. Warisa continued with her household duties, believing her daughter was alive, only realising her death four hours later. Police registered an FIR under BNS section 103(1) for murder, with post-mortem confirming strangulation as cause of death, police said. The autopsy confirmed death due to strangulation and an investigation is underway, they added. The incident occurred in Bijrol village under Baraut police station area in Baghpat, Haryana, on Saturday morning. The woman was arrested after local villagers reported the matter to the police when they saw Warisa attempting to bury her daughter’s body at the spot. The accused’s husband, a toy trader, was in Sultanpur at the time, while Warisa was living in the village with her nine children.
