Veteran Odia Actor Uttam Mohanty Passes Away at 66, Odisha Mourns Cinema Icon

Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty passed away on February 27, 2025, at the age of 66, while undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Delhi. He had been battling liver cirrhosis and was airlifted from Bhubaneswar to Delhi earlier this month due to the severity of his condition.

Born on December 23, 1958, in Baripada, Odisha, Mohanty was a stalwart in the Odia film industry, with a prolific career spanning several decades. He featured in over 135 Odia films, 30 Bengali films, and one Hindi film, “Naya Zaher.” His versatility and charisma made him a beloved figure in regional cinema.

In recognition of his immense contribution to Odia cinema, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that Mohanty’s last rites would be conducted with full state honors. The actor is survived by his wife, actress Aparajita Mohanty, and their son, Babushaan Mohanty, who is also a prominent actor in the industry.

Mohanty’s passing marks the end of an era in Odia cinema, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire future generations of artists.
