The Supreme Court issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh authorities in response to a contempt petition alleging a violation of its November 13, 2024, order. A bench of Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih, while hearing the petition, directed that \”until further orders, there shall be no demolition\” at the site in question. The petitioners claim that on February 9, 2025, officials razed the outer and front portions of Madni Masjid in Hata, Kushinagar, despite the Supreme Court’s earlier directive. They argue that no prior hearing was granted before the action was taken and that the disputed portion, allegedly beyond the sanctioned plan, could have been legally regularised. They have also demanded a status quo order for the site, along with restoration of the demolished structure or compensation for the damage, according to Live Law. The court has yet to respond to the petitioners’ claims, but is expected to make a decision on the matter by the end of the month.
