A few infrastructure projects in Delhi, including three government hospitals and double-decker flyovers, are facing significant delays and funding issues. These PWD projects include the construction of three big govt hospitals which remain incomplete due to lack of funds. Another project in limbo is the so-called ‘world-class’ sports university, envisioned in 2020 and officially announced in the 2020-21 state budget. An allocation of Rs 2,100 crore was made for theConstruction of the university campus in Mundka, but no ground has been broken yet. The Nand Nagri flyover and the Anand Vihar flyover projects too are dawdling because both of them require some trees to be chopped down and permission for the same is not forthcoming. The third phase of the Barapullah elevated road is now delayed by 10 years. This project is one of the biggest and costliest road projects but several hurdles have deferred its completion, which was scheduled for 2015. The Bhajanpura-Yamuna Vihar project was first off the block and to be finished by 2023. It remains incomplete. The other two are to be completed alongside the new Delhi Metro corridors. The project is still stuck because the forest department hasn’t given it the green clearance after Delhi High Court halted all permissions for tree felling.
