At least 18 people were killed and more than a dozen injured in the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. The Railways has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for seriously injured passengers and Rs 1 lakh for those who suffered minor injuries. The incident occurred as a massive crowd of passengers, hoping to board trains to Prayagraj for the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, rushed onto platforms 14 and 15. The stampede followed a sharp increase in the number of passengers attempting to catch the evening trains to the holy city, resulting in overcrowding and chaos. Authorities are investigating the cause of the stampeded and heightened security measures have been implemented at the station to prevent further incidents. The Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav expressed grief over the death of people in the tragic stampede and said, “I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate stampede. My prayers are with all those who have lost their loved ones.”
