Both maximum and minimum temperatures in most parts of the country would be above average in March, D.S. Pai, a senior scientist at India Meteorological Department told an online news conference. The warmer temperatures could threaten winter-sown crops such as wheat, chickpea and rapeseed, he said. The weather office said the warmer temperatures were expected to continue through the end of the month and into March. The Indian Meteorological Office said the warm weather was expected to last through the month of March and into early April. It said the temperatures were likely to remain above-average for the rest of the year and into April and early May, but below average for the latter part of the next month and early next month. The forecast was based on the average temperatures from January to February, which was higher than the average for that time of year in the past few years, the meteorological department said.
