Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Armstrong allegedly struck a woman with a revolver and threatened to fire the weapon. The 56-year-old was booked and later released on $35,000 bail. The Mavericks organization placed Armstrong on administrative suspension pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. Armstrong played for several teams, including the Mavericks, before retiring in 2008. He seamlessly transitioned into coaching, joining the Mavericks’ staff in 2009. He earned both the Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year awards in 1999 with the Orlando Magic. The incident marks a significant setback for Armstrong, both personally and professionally. He was a fan favorite during his 13-year NBA career, earning numerous awards and accolades for his on-court performance. The team expressed their seriousness regarding the matter and emphasized their commitment to allowing the legal process to unfold. This matter is currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities and we will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing,\” the Mavericks said in a statement.
