Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated the state’s ninth tiger reserve, Madhav Tiger Reserve, on March 10, 2025. The reserve plays a crucial role in safeguarding tiger habitats and accelerating environmental conservation. According to the most recent census report, \”Status of Tigers: Co-predators & Prey in India-2022,\” Madhya Pradesh boasts the highest tiger population in the country, surpassing Karnataka (563) and Uttarakhand (560) The reserve’s diverse topography—forested hills, vast meadows, and serene lakes—makes it an ideal habitat for numerous species. The core area spans 375 square kilometers, while a 1,276 square kilometer buffer zone ensures a safe haven for tigers and other wildlife, expanding their ecological impact and promoting biodiversity. Currently, five tigers reside in the reserve, and with its official designation, conservation efforts are expected to increase their numbers. The reserved forest area covers 32,429.52 hectares, including 2,422 hectares of protected forest and 2,671.82 hectares of revenue land.
