The meeting was held ahead of the Budget Session of the Assembly that begins on March 3. The last Assembly election was held in 2014, and the then Governor, Ravi Agrawal, dissolved the Assembly on November 21, 2018. The Speaker said there was a general agreement among the political parties that the Speaker should be allowed to conduct the session smoothly so that he can give sufficient time to MLAs of various constituencies to raise their issues. The meeting was attended by members of the BJP, the Congress, the CPI(M) and the Independent Party of India (IPI), as well as members of other political parties. The session is expected to last until the end of the first week of April, when it will be adjourned for the day by the Speaker, who will then hold a meeting of the House of Representatives.
