Alleged middleman in the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal case was granted bail by the Delhi High Court in the ED case last week. The CBI, in its chargesheet, claimed an estimated loss of 398.21 million euros (about Rs 2,666 crore) to the exchequer due to the deal. James offered to finish his sentence and leave India instead of walking out on bail. \”I cannot accept the bail. It’s unsafe. Every time I step out of Tihar (prison), something happens,\” he told special judge Sanjeev Aggarwal on March 7. The ED chargesheet fileld against James in June 2016 alleged he received 30 million euros from Agust aWestland. He was extradited from Dubai in December 2018 and was arrested by the CBI and the ED later. The deal was signed on February 8, 2010, for the supply of VV VIP choppers worth 556.262 million euros.
