Recent reports have revealed that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has allocated substantial funds to organizations associated with Bill Gates and the World Health Organization (WHO). Specifically, USAID has provided approximately $4 billion to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, co-founded by Bill Gates, to support global vaccination efforts. Additionally, USAID committed $880 million for maternal and child health programs, with portions of this funding directed to multilateral contributions, including the WHO. In total, the WHO was expected to receive $958 million from the U.S., constituting nearly 15% of its $6.5 billion budget for the 2024-2025 period.
However, the Trump administration has recently ordered the closure of USAID’s Washington D.C. headquarters and is considering shutting down the agency permanently. This move has raised concerns about the future of global health initiatives and the potential impact on programs previously supported by USAID funding.
