Health minister Vishwajit Rane has promised to set up a 20-bed hospital and dialysis unit at Headland Sada in two years. Rane made the statement in response to the proposal by Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar at a health camp held at Vasco. In all, 1,136 people — 430 men and 706 women — were screened at the camp for various diseases, including cancer. Additional services such as ECG checks and consultations for diabetes and anaemia were offered. Around 112 women underwent scanning for breast cancer, and two of them were referred to GMC for further examination. The camp was organised by senior doctors from GMC and Goa Dental College. The work on the hospital project anddialysis unit will start soon,” he said, adding that a hospital with essential services is a crucial necessity in the town of Vasco, Goa, he said. The project is expected to be completed within two years, Rane said.
