Kia Motors has sold over 4,000 units of its first-ever pickup truck, the Kia Tasman, within 17 days of its launch in South Korea on February 13. The strong sales performance accounts for nearly 30 percent of the total pickup truck sales in the country for 2024. Kia’s overall sales in February rose 4.5 percent year-on-year to 253,850 units, with domestic sales reaching 46,003 units and overseas sales at 207,462 units. The model, first introduced at the 2024 Jeddah International Motor Show in Saudi Arabia, features an all-wheel-drive system, a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 281 horsepower, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Sportage SUV led the company’s sales with 46,287 units sold, followed by the Sorento (24,173 units) and Seltos ( 24,040 units). A Kia representative stated that the company aims to sustain its growth momentum with upcoming releases, including the EV4 electric vehicle and continued expansion of the Tasman pickup truck.
