Kokrajhar to host first sitting of Assam Assembly on Monday. Budget session will continue till March 25, with Finance Minister Ajanta Neog to present the budget for the financial year 2025-26 on March 10. First sitting of the house came into being on the day of its first sitting on April 7, 1937, in the Assembly Chamber at Shillong. In 1972, the Assam government decided to shift the Capital to Dispur, Guwahati. The remaining Budget session would be held at the permanent Assembly building in Dispur. The Assembly will be held in the BTC hall, 226 km west of the state capital. The session will also strengthen the administration of Sixth Schedule areas, the Chief Minister said. The first sitting was held at Dispur on March 16, 1973, with the Budget session following on March 17, 1973. It was the first sitting outside the capital city of GuWahati and the first ever to be held outside the state’s capital city.
