Linda McMahon is the nominee for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education under Donald Trump’s second presidential administration. Her hearing before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) took place recently, and she was present to come out of it unscathed. McMahon’s political journey started in 2009 when she was appointed to the Connecticut State Board of Education. She left that role soon enough to run as the US Senator from the state in 2010 as a member of the Republican Party. She served for two years before resigning from her post in 2019 to chair the America First Action PAC. Whether her nomination is approved or rejected, will be announced shortly, once the hearing process is concluded. If confirmed as secretary, she will work with Congress to reorient the department to helping educators, not controlling them, according to her nomination statement. She stated before HELP: “Fund education freedom, not a government-run system. Listen to parents, not politicians. Empower states, not special interests”
